Review of 12V 4200 mAh NiMH Battery and Charger
Gary (Unknown) 12/14/2007 8:35 PM
Several years ago I purchased a used lighting system from a local bike shop, a Cygolite Hi-Lux 30 headlight, with a 10 watt flood, and a 20 watt spot highbeam. Cygolite has converted to mostly 6 Volt Halogen and Led systems, so getting a replacement for this older light was not possible. I ride my bike to and from work here outside of Dayton, Ohio, and with the darkness coming sooner here in December, I needed to get my lighting system up and running. A month or so ago I started looking around the internet for a way to purchase a 12 volt Nicad or NiMh battery and charger to attach to the light on my handle bar. Anyway, I was looking at an article on building a NiMh smart charger, and found a link to the batteryspace.com website. From there I decided to get the 12volt waterbottle battery and charger combo part #CH-UN180C29. I received this system early this week, and after a little practice using a Nimh battery with a built in circuit breaker, and getting used to how to charge a Nimh battery, have had no problems using this battery. After experimenting with a lower charging rate, and cycling the battery discharging and charging a few times, I found the battery and charger just fine to use with my 30 watt lighting system. I had to make a male to male barrel plug converter to accommodate the female plug that comes on the battery, but eventually I'm going to hard wire a coiled cable with a male connector to fit the Cygolite system. With this, my system will be all I will need for a good long time. I would definitely recommend this company, batteryspace.com for replacement rechargeable batteries and connectors to adapt them to just about any lighting system.
